Title: Algorithmic Management in Crowdsourcing
Abstract:
Crowd-computing (a.k.a. crowdsourcing and humancomputation) has become an integral part of artificial intelligence (AI). Ithas spawned the “sharing economy” which is projected to reach $335 billion by2025. It is widely envisioned that the future of crowd-computing will be onewhich intelligently combines the prowess of automation and human intelligence throughAI techniques. Nevertheless, today’s crowdsourcing systems mostly serve as repositoriesof tasks and rely on workers to self-organize. Such a mode of operation lacksefficiency and is vulnerable to the phenomenon of herding which can result incascading failures and threaten the long-term sustainability of crowdsourcingsystems. In this talk, I present our research in algorithmic crowdsourcing atthe LILY Research Centre, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore to make automatedcalls to human expertise in order to solve complex problems. It can potentiallyresult in significant new findings concerning human decision-making behaviours;efficient algorithms to help future crowd-computing platforms supportdistributed, network-based, and team-based modes of operation; and large-scale benchmarkingwhich can standardize the evaluation of future crowd-computing approaches andeven help advance the field of gerontology.
